The exhibition presents photosynthesis not only as one of the greatest miracles of nature, but also as a natural process that affects many fields of human activity. It presents the process in all its forms: as a photochemical reaction, as one of the main processes shaping the form of the planet and one of the basic conditions of life.
But it also shows how photosynthesis has intervened in human culture, as the greatest discovery in human history, the basis of food production and the catalyst for social change. Moreover, only man-made agriculture, thanks to long-term breeding and the development of techniques and technologies, can intensify the process of photosynthesis in a way that still ensures the life of humanity.
You will learn about photosynthesis through engaging large-scale installations with many interactive elements, models and unique collection items. The exhibition is divided into five thematic areas, which take you step by step from basic concepts, through the process of oxygen production and its crucial impact on our planet, to models of artificial photosynthesis production for alternative crop cultivation or experimental use as a renewable resource. The inspiring exhibition offers space for educational activities and relaxation.
The exhibition Photosynthesis is held under the auspices of the Minister of Agriculture Marek Výborný, the Minister of Culture Martin Baxa, the Minister of the Environment Petr Hladík and the President of the CAS Eva Zažímalová. The expert partner of the exhibition is the Faculty of Horticulture of Mendel University in Brno. The researchers of the Biology Centre of the CAS also participated in the preparation of the exhibition.
The exhibition will be on display at the National Museum of Agriculture Prague - Kostelní 44, 170 00 Prague 7 until 31 December 2025.
