Don't miss the unique exhibition of detailed images of insect heads taken by scientists from the Biology Centre of the Czech Academy of Sciences using the most modern electron and optical microscopes in the Czech Republic. The exhibition not only celebrates the immense diversity and aesthetic uniqueness of insects, but also highlights their vital role in ecosystems and the need for their protection.
Insects are among the oldest terrestrial organisms and are the most numerous and diverse group of animals. It is estimated that there are around 5 million insect species in the world, and that only about one-fifth of them have been described.
The study of insects allows us to understand biodiversity as well as key ecological processes, while providing valuable insights into the history of life on Earth. Insects have also inspired countless discoveries and innovations in many fields, including agriculture, medicine, engineering, robotics and materials.
In recent decades, insects have been declining dramatically due to habitat loss, pesticide use, climate change and pollution. This decline threatens not only insect populations, but also the plants and other animals that depend on them. Protecting insects is therefore essential for maintaining the health of ecosystems, which are also indispensable for human society and its future.
The exhibition will take you along the path of evolution from the oldest groups, whose ancestors lived in the protohistoric times, to the evolutionarily youngest representatives of the insect orders. Through stunning photographs you can explore their phylogenetic development and evolutionary changes.
Come with us to explore the insect kingdom that surrounds us and that we normally overlook. Let yourself be taken into a microscopic world where each insect face becomes a window into the mysteries of nature.
