Microbiological monitoring of the "Medard" flooded mine pit
In tight cooperation with the other departments of the Institute of Hydrobiology and other institutions, our department conducts limnological monitoring of the process of hydric recultivation of a flooded mine pit called "Medard". The owner, the company "Sokolovská uhelná, Ltd", intends to turn the former coal mine into a lake of the length of about 5 km and the depth of over 50 m. In order to assess potential risks regarding water quality in the emerging water body, we keep an eye on development of microbiological parameters (growth of algae and bacteria).
