Project organisation

 The project is managed by a management and a realization team. Courses are included in the list of eligible subjects offered to students in the PhD programmes.

Project team (brief description of the members)

prof. RNDr. František Sehnal, CSc.

Project Team Leader

Graduated in animal physiology from Brno University; postdoctoral stays in USA (Case Western Reserve University and University of California Irvine). Research in insect physiology, developmental biology and plant-insect interactions; professor at the University of South Bohemia. Publications: more than 200 papers with IF and 22 patents. Principal investigator of 19 domestic and foreign grants (since 1991). Major domestic functions: Director of the Entomological Institute (1995-2003); Vice-Director of the Grant Agency of the Academy of Sciences (1998-2001); Member of the National Accreditation Commission (Ministry of Education, 2004-2010); Director of BCAS (2007-2011). International experience: Chairman of the Council for International Congresses of Entomology (2004-2008); currently on the editorial boards of 10 international journals.

Ing. Tereza Veselá

Project manager

Faculty of Agriculture, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, Business Entrepreneurship (Bachelors degree); Economical faculty, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, Business Entrepreneurship (Engineer degree); since March 2009, the project manager of BCAS CR.

Ing. Jolana Fišerová

Project economist

Graduated in Economics from the Charles University in Prague (Engineer degree); since 2005 cost account employee of BCAS CR.

Mgr. Radmila Čapková Frydrychová, Ph.D.

Project coordinator

Biological Faculty (now Faculty of Science), University of South Bohemia - Molecular Biology and Genetics (Mgr., 1997); Study of Inverse Polymorphism in Midges (PhD., 2003); Phylogeny of telomeric sequence in chromosomes of insects, NEIHS/NIH, North Carolina, USA; Postdoctoral fellowship - Chromatin structure of Drosophila telomeres (2003-2008); Biology Centre ASCR (since 2009).

doc. RNDr. Jindřich Bříza, CSc.

Graduated in genetics from the Charles University (Prague); currently Head of the Department for Gene Manipulations in the Institute of Plant Molecular Biology and senior lecturer at the University of South Bohemia. Research: plant genome structure (role of transposons, regulation of gene expression) and the use of plants for the production of vaccines (human papillomavirus).

Mgr. Tomáš Doležal, Ph.D.

Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague (Bc, Mgr.); currently working in the Faculty of Science of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice (Ph.D.); in 1999-2000 and 2003-2005 working stays in the University of California, Irvine, USA; since 2006 a lecturer and senior researcher at the Department of Molecular Biology, Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia.

doc. Ing. Dalibor Janouš, CSc.

Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry in Brno, Faculty of Forestry and Wood - Forest Engineering (Ing.), Cultivating forest (Ph.D.), Forest Ecology (Dr.); since 1983 the Institute of Systems Biology and Ecology AS CR, Laboratory of Environmental Physiology plants (since 1998 the statutory representative of the Director and Deputy to the economy).

prof. Ing. Hana Šantrůčková, CSc.

University of Agriculture in Prague (now Czech University of Life Sciences Prague) – Ing.; Institute of Microbiology CSAS - Ecology, specializing in microbiology (Ph.D.); Biology Faculty (now Faculty of Science), University of South Bohemia - Ecology (Dr., prof.); International scholarship at the Australian National University, Canberra, Australia; in 1998-2004 researcher at the Institute of Soil Biology ASCR and Head of the Department of Ecology in Biology Faculty of University of South Bohemia; 2005-2007 Head of the Department of Ecology BF USB in ČB; since 2007 Head of the Department of Ecosystem Biology, Faculty of Science at USB ČB.

prof. RNDr. Ivo Šauman, Ph.D.

University of Science, Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem - General Biology (RNDr.); Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT, USA - Molecular and Developmental Biology (Ph. D.); post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard University, Boston, MA, USA; since 1996 researcher at the Institute of Entomology ASCR and Biology Faculty (now Faculty of Sciences), University of South Bohemia, České Budějovice; since 2001 Head of Department of Developmental Biology at the Institute of Entomology BCAS.

prof. Ing. Josef Špak, DrSc.

University of Agriculture in Prague (now Czech University of Life Sciences Prague) – Phytotechnics (Ing.); Institute of Experimental Botany ASCR – Department of Phytopathology (PhD.); Czech University of Life Sciences Prague – Plant Protection Study (Dr.); Study of Agriculture and Forestry phytopathology and plant protection (DrSc.); University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, Plant Protection Study (prof.); since 1990 Institute of Plant Molecular Biology ASCR - researcher, since 1998 director of the Institute.

PaedDr. Martina Žurovcová, Ph.D.

Studies of biology: Pedagogical faculty in Ostrava and Biological faculty of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, Czech Republic; graduation from the State University of New York, Stony Brook (USA); postdoctoral stay in the University of California Irvine. Research: Evolutionary and population genetics, use of molecular markers for species identification, molecular ecology.
