Institute of Plant Molecular Biology
MISSION STATEMENT
The Institute of Plant Molecular Biology conducts research on plants at the molecular level. This includes the plant genome, structure and function of cells, compounds produced by plants, molecular principles of photosynthesis, biophysical and biochemical bases of processes, cellular signaling in response to environmental stimuli, and microscopic pathogens of plants.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The Institute of Plant Molecular Biology (IPMB) was founded in 1990 when several genetically oriented teams split from the Institute of Experimental Botany in Prague and moved to České Budějovice. Today, more than 30 IPMB scientists concentrate not only on basic research, they are also teaching specialized topics at the Faculty of Life Sciences of the University of South Bohemia and supervise the theses of nearly 20 pregraduate and PhD students. IPMB also has established cooperation with several crop-oriented research institutes.
